No matter whom you are – regardless of your gender, age, or your general health – it is important to have a healthy living. Like women and children, men should also have regular check-ups and be involved with physical activities to promote their well-being. According to a website of Guadalupe Regional Medical Center in Texas, the following are the important tips for men’s health:



1. Have regular check-ups – even if you feel okay.
To have a physical or wellness check each year is one of the best ways that men can promote their own good health; the physical should include evaluations in glucose, cholesterol, and blood pressure.



2. Schedule an appointment with your doctor when something doesn’t seem right.
If you have noticed changes in your body such as changes in your sleep or bathroom habits, experiencing unexplained weight fluctuations, or have a cut or sore that it doesn’t seem to heal, then it’s also important to see a doctor.
Remember, many significant health issues begin as minor problems that could’ve been prevented or better managed if they had been detected early.



3. Know your family history – and share it with your doctor.
If your parents or other family members have a history of chronic health conditions such as diabetes, hypertension or heart disease, you may have a higher risk for developing those conditions yourself. If you share it with your doctor, he/she can help you to develop an action plan to minimize those risks and increase your chances of early detection.


4. Get some exercise.

At least 30 minutes a day is the ideal time of exercise you should take. But if you are having difficulties in a workout, remember that even a brisk 20-minute walk a few times a week with your spouse, or regular play with your kids or grandkids outside, can provide heart healthy and stress-relieving benefits.



5. Give yourself permission to take a break.
Watching TV with your family, playing golf or heading to a ballgame aren’t just fun ideas but they are best practices to keep you stress at bay. If you’re having difficulty finding room for leisure, look for creative ways such as listening to music or taking care of the yard, to get some “you” time.



6. Ask your doctor about cancer screenings.
Your doctor may recommend that you undergo screening for colon cancer, lung cancer, or prostate cancer based on your age, lifestyle and family history.



7. Stop smoking.
Ask help from your doctor to develop an action plan, and then pick a “quit date” and stick to it.
